Ugandan President, Museveni Wins 6th Term In Office

After 34 years in power, Ugandan incumbent President Yoweri Museveni who is 76 years old wins 6th term in office.

The president who has been in office since 1986 emerged winner of the Uganda 2021 presidential election with 58.64% of the total votes. This was declared by the country’s electoral body on Saturday, January 16.

His main opponent, Bobi Wine who had 34.8% of the total vote has alleged that the election was nothing close to free and fair. He accused Museveni of fabricating the results and called the poll “the most fraudulent election in the history of Uganda.”

The election took place after one of the most violent campaigns in years, with harassment and arrests of the opposition attacks on the media and the death of at least 54 people.
